Custom Development
The Project
Design and develop a custom Shopify Plus storefront to Showcase L’Oréal’s new product, Colorsonic, an innovative hair color device. Create a custom buying experience that flows seamlessly between the L'Oréal Paris website and the Colorsonic site on Shopify Plus. Simplify the purchase flow and reduce the number of clicks to purchase, with refined product selection options to deliver a streamlined buying experience. Ensure seamless integration with L&R’s fulfillment, distributor, and warehouse solutions to ensure a smooth operational flow post-purchase.
The Challenges
Multi-site purchase flow: Create a seamless journey from the global L'Oréal Paris site to the Shopify D2C purchasing experience - a completely different site
Dynamic PDPs: Develop PDPs with a large amount of content which updates dynamically based on the selected shade and product types
Data & Analytics: Navigate complex consumer data capture requirements between multiple enterprise parties with differing data capture requirements
Complex communication: Manage communication between three teams, BlueSwitch, L&R Distributors, and L’Oréal Colorsonic
Short timeline: Design & develop the customized experience in less than 3 months from contract signed to launch
Our Solution
L’Oréal and L&R Distributors contracted BlueSwitch to build an on-brand, seamless experience for L'Oréal’s new revolutionary hair color device: Colorsonic.
Multi-site purchase flow with dynamic product content
We worked directly with L'Oréal and L&R teams to determine the best purchasing flow and UX experience. L'Oréal would be sending traffic to a landing page on the L'Oréal Paris website, with product selection and purchasing powered by Shopify Plus. The dynamic, multi-site purchase flow delivered all the flexibility of a custom-developed frontend UX, with the speed, security, reliability, and scalability of Shopify Plus. Once the purchasing flow was decided, BlueSwitch designed custom PDPs to look similar, but not an exact match, to the ones on the L'Oréal Paris site.
It’s all about the relationships
Because BlueSwitch and L&R Distributors had worked together previously on the development of the Avenue B storefront, we were pre-aware of both the legal and technical requirements of the L&R Distributors brand. The existing relationship allowed us to leverage the same Sellercloud fulfillment integration solutions used for the Avenue B project. Our relationship with L&R dramatically reduced the amount of project hours required for this build, allowing us to ramp up the project quickly, and work seamlessly across multiple brand-stakeholders.
Efficient communication between enterprise stakeholders
With three teams working together on this project, and a complex system of requirements, requests, and approvals, close and efficient communication was a top priority. The designated project managers for each team worked closely together to keep the lines of communication open, with clear and frequent communication between both internal and external teams. The three teams worked together to address goals, risks and blockers, and determine the best course of action for each issue. The result was a smooth and issue-free build, and a spectacular finished product.
